They’re bringing the Sphere back to the WTC Site.
It’s the first time I feel like there will be a real monument – An evocation.
A piece of the disaster that is a touchstone of pain in broad view right there for all to see, to remember through. A piece that isn’t shaped and fit to the narrative.
We cried when they pulled down the teeth, those fingers jutting up out of the desolated field. They spoke to our pain and what better remembrance could there be than pain. But perhaps peace and unity is a better memory to hold onto. And there it will stand, a battered, imperfect sphere, worse for the wear and all the more inspiring because of it.
